We asked some of our favorite fitness girls about what to eat before working out...because workout season for Summer 2018 has officially begun. Here's what they had to say;

It depends on on the time you are working out but generally either an Apple, Banana, Toast with Peanut butter, yogurt or a High Protein Shake. Those are key in providing your body with energy because they allow muscles to work more on the exercise rather than losing energy breaking down carbs.
After the workout is when you want to eat food with higher fat to fuel!

A banana, or one of them healthy bars. If I am too hungry or exhausted, I may eat a whole meal lol. Then I normally have a protein shake right after working out.

For early workouts, I normally eat oatmeal and drink some water. For evening workouts, I have no specific meals. I just eat dinner right after I work out.
So what should you take from this?
Please don't go over board trying to make a specific meal before you work out. Chances are that you will make that meal and become too tired to go workout. Instead snack on easy things in your fridge like fruits, oatmeal, bars, yogurt etc before you go workout. It is also better to eat before working out especially if you are going to the gym early so that you can have some energy for your workout and to also ensure that your muscles have something to actually work on. After working out, it is also good to eat high protein meals which helps in further building your muscles. And don't forget to drink water!!!!!!
