These 4 simple words have changed the trajectory of my life. After going through the most traumatic experience of my life last year ( experiencing the stillbirth of my first baby at 35 weeks), I was faced with the daunting task of moving on with life even though the desire to do so disappeared along with my baby. I was devastated and depression hit.
I had to face the fact that I could either, let the depression absorb me, or, I could fight back and try to regain my happiness
The greatest lesson I learned is that you play an active role in determining what kind of life you will have. We tend to let outside forces determine or influence our positivity. Staying positive does not mean you have to be happy all the time. It means that even on hard days you know that there are better ones coming.
Another lesson I learned is to protect my energy at all cost, I am focused on living my best life. This experience taught me to appreciate life, and the happy moments in your life. It showed me that worrying about things you can’t control, is a complete waste of time. Why live in the past? The only thing left in the past is pain. Why live in the future? The only thing waiting for you is anxiety. Live in the present, that’s all you can control. Practice mindfulness, be thankful for what is in front of you, stop and smell the roses. Live your life, be present for your life.
You get exactly what you put out into the universe. I am not speaking about karma in this instance, I am speaking along the lines of manifesting your individual greatness. Nothing in this universe is by coincidence. We all have a path, a destiny that we are hurtling towards.
When we go with the flow of the universe, and we go with the flow of our natural path, doors and windows of opportunity naturally open and give way for more opportunities. When we flow against our path, we run into obstacle after obstacle.
Perhaps it is not that we are not meant to have those things, perhaps it is that we are not meant to have them at that EXACT time. We need to learn to accept these ideas, trusting that God and the universe will lead us to our destiny at the perfect time.
You have to live your life. In fact, live your BEST life. Life is beautiful and we need to stay in the present and appreciate the gift of life. I realize that people sometimes feel guilty for trying to live their best life, putting themselves first or allowing themselves to indulge in life. My question is why? Do you realize that you cannot pour from an empty cup? If you do not practice self care, you will have nothing left to give to those around you.
Through the ups and downs of life, something that has always been a constant for me is my love for travel. It has always been a way to ground myself and a way to hit that reset button. I travel a lot because I love to see how vast the world is, how other people live, I truly believe traveling helps shape your perspective of life. It shows you just how blessed you are, just to even have the opportunity to do it. It also sometimes shows you how insignificant your problems actually are compared to what other people are going through.
I recently made the big decision to move across country to Los Angeles. I decided on this move within a very short window of time ( 2 months). I sold all my furniture and moved to the opposite end of the country. Why? Because I knew it was time to make a bold move. I picked something off my bucket list, and crossed it out. I knew it was time to let go and throw myself into something completely new and exciting.
Find what inspires you, what makes you dream and do it. Do you ever feel stuck? Do you ever feel like you have bottomed out on opportunities or new experiences? Does life currently feel boring? My father said something when I told him about my move, he said “God’s blessings sometimes can be geographical”, perhaps you feel like you have overgrown something. A job, a haircut, a guy ( we have all been there), and for me a city. If you are feeling this way, all that is left to do is get up and do something about it. It doesn’t have to be as drastic as what I did. But move! Do something, don’t just sit there and dream, take action and let your dreams turn into reality. We only have one chance to live life, why not make it worth your time?
For me, I have decided to live boldly and freely. Life is going to happen, and you might as well have the right attitude to get through the beauty and sadness of it all. Live loudly, Love freely, enjoy the moment! Do not live in the past, because the only thing because for you is pain. Do not live in the future because the only thing waiting for you is anxiety. Live in the now, practice mindfulness, all you can control is today.
